Praying for God to be Glorified
I have said many times that we must not pray selfishly. We pray for God's will, not our will, to be done. However, there is another excellent way to pray, too. It is when we pray for God to be glorified by His answer to our prayer. That is what Hezekiah did when the king of Assyrian was about to attack Jerusalem. (II Kings 19:19) Let's apply this truth in our lives.
Hezekiah prayed for God to spare Jerusalem, but it was not a selfish prayer. He prayed for God to save the city in such a way that the whole world would know that He alone was God. Hezekiah saw the crisis as an opportunity. We need to do that, too. When we have a problem that is completely beyond our power, we should pray for the power of God to be displayed in a mighty way, so He can get the glory, not people. Then, He can act according to His will, and do it in His way, and He can get the glory.
I pray that we will give God glory for all He does in our lives, and I pray that we will pray for Him to be glorified in the solution to every challenge in our lives. I am sure that will please Him, and the world will come to know that He is Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Kings 21-23.
