Settled in Complacency

God hates complacency. There is no complacency in Him, and He can't stand to see His children being complacent.(Zephaniah 1:12) Complacency is being willing to keep things the way they are, and to do nothing to make our lives or the lives of others more righteous before God. It is not caring about the commands of God, because we do not think it will make any difference in our lives, because God won't punish us. In effect, complacency presumes upon God's mercy, which is always a mistake, no matter what leads us to do it. Please, let me explain this a little for us.

God desires for each believer to continue to grow more like Jesus every day we stay on this earth. We should be in a constant growth process, because we realize it is a lie of the Devil to think we can stay where we are spiritually. We are either getting closer to God or farther away. Therefore, complacency causes us to drift from God.

God desires for all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.(I Timothy 2:4) We are His agents in bringing other people to salvation, since He has sent each of us to make disciples of all people groups. Our complacency is sin, since we stop caring about others and sharing the gospel with them.

Finally, a rut is just a grave with the ends knocked out. If we get in a rut in our lives, because we are complacent about doing God's will, we are really close to being dead. We are of no use to God or other people. God must punish us to try to get us out of the rut, before it is too late to do His will.

Now, we can see why seeing His children being complacent makes God want to throw up.(Revelation 3:16) I pray that we do not want to upset the Lord, but to please Him, so that we never allow ourselves to become complacent in our lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Zephaniah 3 and Haggai 1-2.
