Honor

It is normal for a son to honor his father and for a servant to honor his master. Yes, I know some fathers are hard to honor and so are some masters, but I am speaking about what is the norm. However, God is our Father and our Master, so why do we not honor Him?(Malachi 1:6) That was the basis of one of the questions God asked His people in Malachi's time, and it is still a good question for his people today.

If we honor God as our Father, we will do what He says. The same if true for the fact that God is our Master, so if we honor Him, we will obey Him. Whenever we do not obey God, we dishonor or despise Him. I know that we do not think about it that way, but it is true. The opposite of honor is dishonor and despising another person. We need to take this fact seriously, because it is true.

How would it change your life to honor the Lord as your Father, so that you did whatever He said? What if you honored Him, as your Master, how would that change your life? OK, by not doing those things you are despising God, even if you are saying you love Him and trust Him. That is just how serious this is for our lives. God deserves all of our honor every day of our lives.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Matthew 1-3.
