Will You Choose the Convenient Way or God's Way?
People are into doing what is convenient and what seems good to them. It is a way of life, especially in America, since we have so many conveniences and good things to enjoy. However, when Jeremiah was given the choice to go the convenient way, he went the other way, because that was God's will.(Jeremiah 40:4) I have often found that to be how God leads us, if we are listening to Him. So if we follow convenience, many times we will miss doing His will for our lives.
What other word does the word "disciple" sound like? It sounds like discipline, because they come from the same root word. A disciple is a person who lives a disciplined life, to follow His teacher. This does not mean that we follow when it is convenient. It means that we seek to do whatever He wants us to do every time, even when it is hard. Jeremiah could have returned to Babylon and lived in luxury. This choice would have been very appealing after being placed in the dungeon of mire and held in the prison for quite a while. However, he went back to live with the poorest people who were left in Judah by the king of Babylon, so that he could continue to help them know God's will by speaking God's word to them. He did not live in luxury at all, but he did get to hear the Lord say, "Well done," when he stood before Him.
What will we choose, convenience or God's way? We have to make that decision every day, and there is only one right way to go. That is God's way.
Tomorrow, I intend t read Jeremiah 42-45.
