The New Covenant
Most people have a misunderstanding of Jesus and the New Covenant, which He established by dying for us on the cross and rising again. They think it is separate from the Jewish people and the Old Covenant, which was given to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The New Covenant was with the House of Israel and the House of Judah.(Jeremiah 31:31) Jesus came as the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies to establish a superior covenant in His blood for both Jews and Gentiles. He made a huge point to reveal His new plan to the Jew first, and then to everyone else. Jesus is the Messiah the Jews are waiting for, but many of them missed Him by being stuck on the Old Covenant and not listening to Jesus.
Jeremiah revealed the New Covenant to the Jewish people hundreds of years before Jesus came into this world. This shows it was always God's plan, not an after thought. It was not an addition because Israel messed up. God knew Jesus would have to die, and everything in the Old Covenant points to Jesus, our Messiah sent from God. The New Covenant is the final option. Jesus died once for all the sins of the world. A person, whether Jew or Gentile, either trusts Christ as Lord of all who died to be our Savior, and they enter the New Covenant, or they are lost and without hope in this world. This is why the disciples were sent into the world to "make disciples of all people groups." Everyone needs Jesus. He is the Messiah for everyone, and the New Covenant is God's promise to us who believe, so that we can be forgiven our sins and have a relationship with Him through Christ and His sacrifice.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 32-34.
