Lying Prophets and Dead Prophets
Every day we have to decide what to do and who to believe. It is a challenge. However, the Bible is clear that if we know the Lord, we hear from Him, and He directs us in what to do and what to believe. We have the Bible, which is His Word to us, and He speaks to us directly by the Holy Spirit. However, we will encounter lying people who claim to be prophets. We must be careful not to believe them and do what they say.(I Kings 13:17,18) If we fail to follow what God has clearly told us, it could be disastrous.
Don't be fooled by stories of angels speaking to people or visions that people say they have had. Stick to God's Word and what He has told you. Never depart from it. God does not change, and He does not contradict the Bible. Do not be tricked into going against the truth He has shown you. He is serious about obedience, and He might have to punish you severely like He did the prophet in this story.
Following God is not rocket science. He doesn't hide from us. If we want to know His will, we can know it by following His Word and learning to discern His voice. Just remember to listen when you read and pray. Then, follow in faith. His Spirit will show you if you are not going in the right direction, but you have to be sensitive to Him.
