An Understanding Heart
Solomon became the wisest man to ever live, because he unselfishly asked God to give him an understanding heart to judge God's people well.(I Kings 3:5,9) His response to God's question of what He would like to have, pleased God so much that God added riches and honor to the wisdom for which he asked. I believe it would please God for all believers to ask for an understanding heart.
Solomon told us in Proverbs 3:5,6 that we must not lean on our own understanding. That is because our ways are not God's ways, and our thoughts are not God's thoughts.(Isaiah 55:8,9) The only way we can discern wisely and have the correct understanding of anything is to know God's way and to have understanding from Him. That is why His Word and prayer are so important for us. We can read His Word and pray, so that He can show us His way. We can hear from Him, so we can know what to say and do. However, it is all about depending on God, not ourselves.
Is that what you want? Why not read I Kings 3 and pray a sincere prayer for wisdom like Solomon did? Then, wait to see what God does.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Kings 4-6.
