God Keeps His Promises
God told Moses that He would bring the people of Israel out of Egypt and lead them into the land of Canaan, so they could live there in peace. King Solomon was a witness to the fact that God had kept that promise.(I Kings 8:56) He had fulfilled every word which He spoke to Moses. The same thing is true with every promise God makes. He always keeps His promises.
God's promises are very specific. Some are personal promises for one person. Others are promises for a group of people like Israel or the church. Some are unconditional and eternal promises, while others have conditions. God always has a purpose for giving His promises, and we do well to discern His promises and His intentions. However, for the most part God's promises are for us to have a better life. If we trust Him and do our part, we will experience the abundant life God promises to those who know Him.
Solomon said that the Lord had given His people "rest." They came to live in the land of milk and honey. They had conquered their enemies. They had finished the Temple for the worship of God. They could rest in the Lord, knowing that He would lead them and bless them. He wants all of us to come to that place of rest. It doesn't mean that we won't have sickness, trials, and problems. Israel still had those things. However, they were living out the peace of God. The promises of God show us how to live in that peace and rest. Read them in God's Word and live them out. See what God will do in your life.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Kings 10-12.
