Delegating the Responsibilities

One of the first things that Solomon did as a wise leader was to select twelve governors who would share the responsibility of governing and providing for the king and his household.(I Kings 4:7)  Moses, also, learned the importance of delegating from his father-in-law, Jethro. We are all leaders in some sense, so we all need to learn this lesson to be effective.

We can't do everything by ourselves. There is just too mush work. We must divide it up to make it manageable. Also, when people take part in the work, they feel ownership, and they take pride in what is accomplished. If we try to do it all ourselves, it does not get done, and we rob others of the blessing of service.

A mother of a preschool child needs to begin to delegate tasks to her child as soon as possible. It is good for the child to learn to be responsible, and it takes a load off of her. A father should help his son learn how to help with the chores around the house. It helps both of them. At church, we have ministry teams to do the work of the ministry. It is not good for the leader to try to do all of the work. Delegation helps to make the work load light and others help in the decisions in finding God's will. I could go on and on, but you get the message.

Stop to consider how you should be delegating responsibilities to others. Pray about it. Ask God to show you the right people for the right tasks. Watch them and help them, at first. Then, you can turn it over to them with less and less supervision. Then, give God the glory for teaching you the principle of delegation in His Word, so that His will can be done well.

Tomorrow, I intend to read I Kings 7-9.
