Sufficient Grace
God's grace is sufficient to save us from our sins and to provide all we need to live the Christian life each day.(II Corinthians 12:9) It is an insult to our All-powerful God to declare anything less. It is not reasonable to think that God could save us from sins, but He is not able to sustain us in life. However, many believers seem to think that is the case.
The Apostle Paul found God's grace in his weakness. God gave him a physical infirmity. Yes, read that again. God caused him to suffer from some physical weakness, so that he would not think too much of himself, since he had received such glorious revelations from God. Paul did not realize the great grace of the Lord in his strengths, but in his weaknesses. The reason is that when he was weak, he turned to God, and then, he found that God's grace was sufficient to meet every type of need. This was true for physical needs, emotional needs, and even financial needs.
Therefore, we should be happy that we have weaknesses. We should boast about our weaknesses, and how God is able to give us what we need to overcome the effects of those human weaknesses. In this way we call attention to the Lord and not to ourselves. We show others that God's strength is perfect, and we receive it when we admit we need it, and we allow Him to work in us. As long as we think we are strong, so that we do not depend on Him, we will never know the full sufficiency of His grace.
One of the great paradoxes of the Christian faith is that when we are weak, then, we are strong. Being weak is not a bad thing. It is not any excuse for sinning. It is a reason to trust Him and to find His sufficient grace. Then, we are an example of the power of God to all who see us and know us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Corinthians 13 and Galatians 1-2.
