Thankful for His Grace
Grace means that we get more than we deserve, and we get it as a free gift, not because we worked for it or earned it. God's grace is truly amazing. He extends salvation by grace, even though it cost Him so much. Jesus became poor and died for us, that we might become rich.(II Corinthians 8:9) This is the great exchange. On this Thanksgiving Day we must make sure that we are thankful for the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
God, the Son, volunteered to leave His riches in heaven, become a man, while not ceasing to be God, so that He could live a sinless life, and give Himself as the Perfect Sacrifice for our sins. He had it all, and He gave it all away, dying naked on a cruel cross for every person ever born into this world.(Philippians 2:5-11) He became sin for us that we might be the righteousness of God. We are not talking about giving us earthly riches, even though He provides for our needs. We are talking about eternal riches that can't be taken from us.
In God's wisdom He made the plan of salvation so that this grace is available to every person. It comes by faith. Faith is trust. When we hear how the Lord Jesus gave Himself for us, we simply surrender to Him as Lord and trust Him as Lord of our lives. Then, He delivers His grace into our lives. He makes us rich.
We may have many things for which to be thankful this Thanksgiving Day, but none of them compare to having the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives, so that we possess His riches. Please, stop to remember Jesus today and breathe a prayer of thanksgiving to Him.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Corinthians 9-12.
