God Always Leads Us in Triumph in Christ
The Apostle Paul gave us a wonderfully powerful word picture in II Corinthians 2:14-15. We can all profit from seeing this truth and applying it to our lives each day. In Christ we can live in victory over whatever we face. He is the Conquering King, and He lives in us who know Him as Lord and Savior.
The word picture here is of a Roman parade called a Triumph. Each time the Romans conquered the main city of an area, they put on a parade through the city. The conquering general rode on a white horse leading the parade. He was followed by the victorious Roman army. Then, the defeated soldiers brought up the rear of the procession. All along the way a very fragrant incense was burned so that all of the people of the city could smell it and associate that smell with the Roman victory.
Paul was telling us that Jesus is our Conquering General. He always leads us as His victorious army, and everyone around us can smell the fragrance of God from us. Those who know Him smell the good fragrance of victory. Those who do not know Him, smell the incense of defeat until they turn to Him.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Corinthians 3-5.
