He Restores My Soul
God knows just what we need to have a healthy soul. I believe the soul consists of our mind, will, and emotions. It is who we are. Our physical body is just for us to relate to God's creation, while our spirit is just to relate to God. It is very important for us to know the Lord and to stay restored in Him. Otherwise, we will not be able to live in righteousness, and that is God's will for each of us.(Psalm 23:3)
It is possible to read Psalm 23 and see only that God wants to take care of us and provide all we need. Please, don't miss verse 3. It is central. Yes, God gives us rest and nourishment. He protects us from enemies, and He gives us good things. However, He has a purpose. As we know Him, and our souls are restored by Him, He leads us in the paths of righteousness "for His name's sake," not for us. He wants the whole earth to come to know Him. We are to be His witnesses, His examples of what knowing Him does for an individual. If we do not live holy lives in righteousness toward God and others, the world will miss getting to know Him.
We all need to have our souls restored on a daily basis by meeting with our Lord, our Shepherd. We need it for ourselves, and for the people we will meet that day, so they can see Jesus in us. Remember, you will be a witness for the Lord Jesus if you are a child of God. Will you be a good witness or a bad witness for others to see and hear?
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 26-28.
