We Rest On You

It is easy to try to take charge of our lives and solve our problems by ourselves. That is always the wrong way to go. We should rest on the Lord in every situation, because it is nothing for Him to help us, whether we are strong or weak. King Asa knew that, and his excellent prayer reflects that trust in the Lord.(II Chronicles 14:11) This is another example of a Scriptural prayer, which we could use as a guide to our praying.

Asa cried out to God. It was not just a glib prayer given out of a feeling of obligation. It was the sincere cry of his heart for help. The way he prayed was a praise to God for His power. He knew that it took nothing for the All-Powerful God of the universe to solve his problem. Also, he knew he should depend on God whether he felt strong or powerless. It was not just a prayer of last resort, because he had tried his way, and he could do nothing else. It was his first action when the enemy came. Then, he simply declared that he and the people were resting on the Lord and His might to fight the human enemies. Many times when people come against us, we focus on them and the physical force. Asa focused on God's power, and once he rested in the Lord, he knew the enemy was fighting against God, not him. That is why he asked God not to let man prevail against Him. Since Asa was fully trusting God, the Lord answered his prayer, and overcame the enemy. The same can be true for us today, if we will have the same mind to rest on the Lord.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 15-18.
