Kindness Matters

This world teaches us to be assertive and to display our authority decisively. God desires for His children to exhibit kindness whenever possible. Kindness makes a huge difference in our life situations. Solomon's son, Rehoboam, found this truth out the hard way, when he failed to take the advice of his elders.(II Chronicles 10:7) They told him to be kind to the people, but the young men told him to respond harshly in a display of his authority. He decided against kindness, and it cost him the kingdom. What a huge mistake!

We must realize that we have authority because of our position or our character. We do not have to assert that authority, but we have to use it wisely. If we will be kind and use good words to speak with people, they will listen and follow us. If we choose to be harsh, people will rebel. Kindness matters at home, at church, and at work.

Kindness is part of the fruit of the Spirit.(Galatians 5:22,23) As a believer, we will see the results of allowing the Holy Spirit to control our lives. One of those results is that we will be kind. If we are not kind, the Spirit is not in control. However, if the Spirit is in control, He will be able to show us a kind way to speak or to do whatever the Lord desires for us to do. We do not have to conform to the world's ways, but we should be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Then, we can do God's will in God's way. God puts a premium on kindness.

Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 11-14.
