Belonging to Jesus
There is great security in belonging to Jesus. Once we know Him as Lord and Savior of our lives, there is such a change in our lives that we are assured of our salvation.(John 10:27,28) We are able to hear His voice. He knows us, so we have a personal relationship with Him. We follow Him, instead of following our own way and the ways of the world. He gives us eternal life, which is an abundant life.(John 10:10) We will never perish, because no one can snatch us out of His hand. These are just a few of the realities that come with belonging to Jesus.
I like to explain this truth by using a simple illustration. Most people think they have salvation because of their works. It is like they are trying hard to hold on to Jesus. Remember in school when you would have a physical fitness test or a contest with other children to see who could hold onto the chin up bar the longest? No matter who won, everyone eventually let go, and they dropped down. That is how some people see salvation, and the result will always be the same if we are just trying to be good and to hold on to Him. The truth is the opposite of that. He is holding on to us. It is like taking a penny out of your pocket and holding it securely in your hand. No one can snatch it out. This is especially true of Jesus and the Father. We are in their hands.(John 10:28,29) Also, the Holy Spirit is inside of us. We are secure because we belong to Jesus.
Please, make sure you know Him and belong to Him, because He is Lord of your life. If He is, you will see these changes. Don't deceive yourself into thinking He is with you, if you don't hear His voice, and you are not following Him. If you belong to Jesus, these things are real in your life. No one is perfect, but His sheep follow Him. We belong to Him.
Tomorrow, I intend to read John 12-15.
