Joy for Your Journey
Some of the greatest truths in the Bible are found in John 12-15. Jesus was teaching His disciples these truths just before He went to the cross. He knew their world would be rocked by His death, and they would need something to sustain them. His purpose in teaching them was so that they would not lose their joy, but in fact, their joy would be full to overflowing,(John 15:11) The same is true for us today. Jesus never wants us to lose our joy, and He wants it to be overflowing to others continually.
It is really very simple. We can know Him by surrendering to Him as Lord through repentance and faith. Then, we follow Him in love keeping His commandments out of love, not obligation. He sends the Spirit to lead us and to teach us all things, so we can follow closely. Joy is the fruit of the Spirit; it is the result of living out His will in our secure daily relationship with Him.
Think about it. It is sin that robs you of joy. It is not happiness that brings you satisfaction. It is the abiding joy of knowing Him and walking with Him each day. If you lack joy, turn to Jesus. He wants to give you joy for your journey of life, and no matter what happens, you can have His joy in fullness through it all.
Tomorrow, I intend to read John 16-18.
