Relativism
It is amazing to me how the Word of God can be so relevant to our culture. Moses was inspired by God to deliver His message and His commands to Israel. However, since it is the Word of God, it is absolutely true, anywhere and any time. It could have been written for the USA in 2012.
Deuteronomy 12:8 says, "You shall not at all do as we are doing here today - every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes." What do you think? Do we need to hear that today in America? I think we do.
God began His Word with a message against relativism that is so important. People want to do whatever they think is right. There is one major problem with that philosophy. People are not smart enough to know what is right on their own. Also, a second major problem is that when relativism reigns, everyone is doing something different. There is no unity of mind and heart. There is no consistency in society. No one thinks they should be held responsible for their actions, because they think they should be able to do what they think is right in a particular situation. It creates chaos. That is what we have today. Soon, it will be unmanageable if people do not listen to the Lord.
God's way is not relative. He is an Absolute God. He has revealed His absolute truth to us in His Word. We need to cease doing things in an imperfect way, and follow His truth at all times. Then, there will be unity, order, and progress toward His goals. Life with absolutes brings security and stability, but it also brings the blessings of God. That is what we need today.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 15-17.
