Causing Our Deliverer To Turn Away
Last night I wrote about how God is my deliverer. Then, this morning as I was reading more in Deuteronomy I came to Deuteronomy 23:14, which is a dire warning. We can do things that cause God to turn away from us. Then, we do not have the Deliverer with us when we face the battles of life.
The word picture in Deuteronomy 23:14 is of God walking in the midst of the camp of Israel. However, if the camp was not holy, but contained unclean things, He would turn away, and His Presence would leave them. This is a very clear way of saying that God is not with us, if we pursue unholy activities or allow unholy things in our lives.
It is true. God is under no obligation to follow us. We are to follow Him. He is under no obligation to bless us, when we are rejecting His Word and His directions. God lives in believers now that we live after Pentecost, but that does not mean that He is mighty to deliver those who are walking in their own ways, instead of His ways. I believe this verse should cause all of us to take inventory of our lives and see if there are any unholy things in our lives. If we find some, it is time to repent and to remove them, so our deliverer can walk with us and fight for us.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 24-27.
