Playing with the Children

We had a church picnic this afternoon that was designed to be a time when parents could come out and play games with their children. What a novel idea! Of course, I am being facetious. As long as there have been children, they have wanted their parents to play with them. However, it is strangely absent from our busy schedules in this day and time. We are much poorer, because of being too busy for the children.

Think about it for a minute. How do children learn? They learn a lot by playing. So if a parent wants to teach a child, he or she needs to spend time playing with them. The same thing goes for reading to the child and talking to your child. If we love our children, we won't just drive them to activities, but we will spend time talking with them, reading to them, and playing with them. It is essential.

Jesus really knew this. He told us to value the children. He told us to lead them to Him. He set the example by holding them in His arms. They weren't even His children, but He truly cared for them. We need to follow His example all of the time. Don't overlook the children. Make them a priority.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 4-6 and Acts 17:16-34.
