The Spirit of Truth
Eighteen men gathered this morning to study John 16, and it was a stimulating study about the Holy Spirit. He is a person, not a thing. He is the Spirit of Truth, because He came to glorify Jesus, who is the Truth. He did not come to promote Himself, but the one who died for us and gives us everlasting life. We owe so much to the Holy Spirit.
However, the huge truth from this passage is that Jesus promised His disciples that the Spirit would guide them into all truth. That is so important for us, who are so dependent on human leadership. God gave us the Spirit, so He could guide us into all truth, no matter where we were or what our circumstances. If we can grasp this truth, we will reach a milestone in our spiritual journey. We will realize that if we are in tune with the Holy Spirit, He will guide us to know and do God's will, as Christ has designed for us. He is our sufficient guide.
This is why the spread of the gospel and the truth of God is not dependent on educated people. It is only dependent on saved people who are obedient to what the Spirit leads them to do and to say. Isn't God good? He did not leave us lacking in any way. When He saved us, He gave us His Spirit to guide us and to empower us for His glory and for our good. I believe that we must all put more emphasis on the leadership of the Spirit than the leadership of man.
Tomorrow, I intend to read II Chronicles 34-36 and John 19:1-22.
