Tender Mercies and Lovingkindnesses

There are some wonderful things which we think of in the singular most of the time. However, if we make them plural, it makes them even better and more meaningful. Just consider love. It is very good to be able to say we have a person who is our "love." It is even greater to be able to say we have "loves" in our life. That just multiplies the love and the effects of the love.

David was in a place where He needed the Lord to take care of him. He was very mindful of his sins and his short-comings. Therefore, he made a special request of God. (Psalm 25:6) David asked for the Lord to remember His tender mercies and His lovingkindnesses because they were from of old. David needed more than just mercy. He needed God's tender mercies each time he sinned. He needed many lovingkindnesses. We do, too.

Of course, God's mercy is when He doesn't punish us as much as we deserve. What a blessing that is for each of us when God shines His mercy down for us. However, we need that mercy in many different ways at each different time that we sin. We need Him to remember His tender mercies. It is not that we are asking God to overlook our sins, and we are not trying to presume upon God's goodness. We simply need God to act in line with His forgiving nature.

The same is true of God's lovingkindness. That is when God acts in our life according to the covenant relationship we have with Him. He is our kind, loving Father. We need His love and kindness to be displayed in our life over and over. This is not just for when we sin. It is when we need the assurance of our salvation and some encouragement to live for Jesus as we should. See what I mean? We all need tender mercies and lovingkindnesses in many ways every day.
