Anger and Worry

We all need to come to the knowledge that we do not have control over anything else in the world except for ourselves. We can't control other people, the economy, the weather, or anything else. We might think we can, but we can't. When we try to be in control, and we fail, it just causes two things to happen which are harmful to us. We get angry and we worry.

David had as many problems as anyone ever had, and he had many things about which he could worry. However, God had shown him a great truth about life. (Psalm 37:8) God commands us to stop being angry, forsake all wrath, and quit fretting or worrying, because it only causes harm. Let's explore why God told David to write this for all of us.

James told us in his letter that the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. (James 1:20) Yes, we can have righteous anger by being angry with sin like God, but most of the time we are angry at people and things. Our anger hurts us, our relationships, and it destroys our joy. We need to decide to put away all anger like Lord commanded us in Ephesians 4:31. We simply need to be kind and forgiving, and stop trying to get our way all of the time.

Then, when it comes to worry, there is no doubt about what David told us. Fretting only causes harm. It never fixies a problem. It steals our joy. We need to pray about everything, instead of worrying. (Philippians 4:6-7) That one change will lead God to give us the peace that passes understanding. When we live in constant peace, instead of worry, because we are depending on the Lord in prayer, we will experience life as God intended it for us. So let's put away anger and worry, and see what God does in our lives.
