Seeking God's Face

God really knew what He was doing when He created us, as human beings. He gave us all of the body parts we need to live a good, productive life. The one I want to focus on today, though, is our face. We can tell so much about a person by looking at his or her face. Of course, we can see their mood and emotions, but it goes much farther than that. We get to know them as a person by being face to face with them over time.

That is what David meant when He talked about the face of God. God, the Father, is spirit, so He doesn't have a physical face. However, He is a person, so we can get to know Him very well. (Psalm 27:8) That is why David gave his testimony that when God told him to "Seek My face," that is exactly what David did. We need to hear the Lord saying that to all of us, and we need to respond by seeking His face continually.

So, how do we seek God's face? How do we get to know Him as a Person, to know His emotions and even His thoughts? We seek Him in prayer. We talk to Him in intimate fellowship. We ask Him to show us how He feels about things, and we ask Him to show us His will by guiding us each day. We take time to look into His eyes, so to speak, and we pour out our hearts to Him.

Also, we read His Word. God has revealed Himself to us in the Bible. It is His love letter to us. As we read, we must read with a heart that is longing to know Him better, not just to learn the facts. We are seeking the Author of the Bible by reading what He inspired for us. When we put these two things together with sincere worship, we see the main ways that we should seek God's face all of the time. When we do, we will be blessed to know the Lord better and better.
