Our Bountiful Salvation

I have read these verses many times over the years, but I am afraid I missed the meaning that was intended by David as he was inspired by God to write these words. I believe the reason that I missed it was because when I hear him say that "God has dealt bountifully with me," my mind focuses on my family and my possessions which God has given me. That is true, but I don't think it is what David meant here.

When we read the beginning of this psalm, it is clear that David was being attacked by enemies, and He was needing God's help. After crying out to God, he remembered how well God had taken care of him in the past. (Psalm 13:5,6) David proclaimed that he had trusted in God's mercy, and He would rejoice in His salvation. David would sing to the Lord because He had dealt bountifully with him. I believe this is what each of us, as believers should do all of the time.

In order to make it well in life, we have to trust in the mercy of God. None of us deserve God's mercy. We  all sin after we get saved. We fail Him on occasions. Still, God is merciful to us, as He was when He saved us from our sins. He delivers us from the bad people and bad situations of life, as we depend on His mercy.

Therefore, we should always sing of His salvation. We should rejoice in the fact that He saved us from our sins, and that He has saved us from being destroyed by our enemies and the storms of life. We should look back over our life and remember all of the ways God has delivered us. Then, we will see how bountifully He has dealt with us spiritually and physically. This should help us to keep trusting in His mercy and rejoicing in Him.
