Waiting Silently

Waiting is hard for many of us. I know when I have to wait it causes me to get kind of antsy. I don't usually complain, but I often feel compelled to say something about the situation to try to hurry things up. It is difficult to be quiet and wait patiently. I believe the same is true for us when we are waiting on God.

Jeremiah was in agony over the deaths of so many people and the destruction of Jerusalem, but he did have confidence in the Lord. (Lamentation 3:25-26) He knew that the Lord is good to those who await Him, to the person who seeks Him. He declared that it is good for that person to wait silently for the salvation of the Lord. Let's consider this truth.

God loves for us to wait upon Him instead of trying to do everything in our own power. He is good to us when we seek Him faithfully. In fact, He promises us that if we seek Him with our whole heart, we will find Him. This kind of waiting is not just doing nothing. It is actively expecting God to come to us because we are seeking Him.

I believe the waiting silently helps in a couple of ways. Our silence means that we are not complaining or arguing with God while we wait for Him. It shows we trust in God's timing. Also, it is a sign of our faith in the Lord. We know we can count on God to do the right thing at the right time, so we wait silently for the salvation of God. We wait knowing that God can deliver us from any hardship or need, and we are expecting Him to do it for us.
