Getting a New Heart
I have known a few people who have had to have a heart transplant. It is a super complex surgery, and there is no guarantee of success. They have to have follow-up visits for years to make sure everything is going well. It is a great thing that provides a new lease on life for people in a life and death situation. The thing that most of us don't think about is that we all need a heart transplant spiritually.
Ezekiel told the people of God what the Lord was going to do for them when they turned back to Him in faith. (Ezekiel 11:19) God promised to give them one heart and to put a new spirit within them. He would remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a soft heart of flesh. I pray that each of us will have such a heart transplant which will last for eternity.
Before we get saved, we have a sin infected heart. That sin colors all we do and say. However, once we put our trust in Christ by grace through faith, God gives us a heart that is in tune with His heart. That makes all of us have "one heart." Also, He gives us a new spirit, so that we can fully relate to Him, hearing His voice and following Him. It is having a new lease on life.
Then, we have a soft heart that is responsive to the things of the Lord. No longer is our heart hardened by sin. That old "hard heart" is removed, and we have a new heart, so we can become like Jesus. As we stay close to the Lord by growing in Him, our soft heart will lead us in the right way, because we will be led by the Holy Spirit and empowered by Him to do God's will. There is no other way to experience real life than to have a spiritual heart transplant!

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 13-16.
