Listening to God's Voice
We are all made in the image of God. It is not that we look like God physically, because God, the Father, doesn't have a body. He is Spirit. However, it does mean that He created us with some of His characteristics. We can think. We have the ability to love others and have close relationships. We can make our own decisions. Also, we can communicate with our words. When we realize this, it should make us more sensitive to hear what the Lord is saying to us.
The people who were left in Judah after the Babylonians took most of the people into exile came to Jeremiah and asked him to seek the Lord for them. They said they wanted Jeremiah to hear God's voice and let them know what to do next. (Jeremiah 42:6) They told Jeremiah whether God's message was pleasant or unpleasant they would listen to His voice, so that it would go well for them when they listened to God.
We should have this same commitment every day, since now all of us can hear from God. We should spend time in God's presence, praying and reading God's Word, all the while listening for God to speak to us. Sometimes, God speaks through the Bible. Other times He speaks right to our heart. The main thing is to be still and ask God to speak. He will speak if we are ready to hear.
The main question is if we will obey what He says. Sometimes what He tells us is unpleasant to us. He has a reason for saying that, and we still need to obey Him. If we obey, things will go well for us. If we fail to listen and obey, we will experience all kinds of trouble. Let's set our hearts to obey whatever God says to us with complete obedience and see what happens.
