Clinging to the Lord
It is very uncomfortable when we have an undergarment that is worn out, and it won't stay up. It stops clinging to our waist, so it slides down. It is useless, at that point, so we just throw it away or make it a rag. Undergarments are made to cling to us. We are made to cling to the Lord.
Jeremiah was told by God to use this analogy to get through to His people. (Jeremiah 13:11) God declared that as an undergarment clings to the waist of a man, so He made the entire household of Israel and the entire household of Judah to cling to Him, so they might be His people for renown, for praise, and for glory, but they did not listen. I hope the same thing will not be said about us.
When a man and a woman are married, the man leaves his parents and clings to his wife. They become one flesh, never to be separated. That is God's design for marriage. God uses that truth in Ephesians 5 to show that we, as Christians, are married to Christ. He is the Head, and we are to cling to Him. He will always be faithful to us, but will we always cling to Him?
When we come to know Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we become a part of His family. We are to cling to Him and to become more like Jesus every day by the power of the Spirit. He supplies the power, if we decide to cling. Clinging is trusting the Lord for salvation and for everything we need. If we stop clinging, it hurts us, and we stop revealing Him to others for renown, for praise, and for glory.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Jeremiah 14-16.
