Correct Me, Lord

Most of us don't like to be corrected by another person. We should be ready to listen to correction, but our flesh often causes us to be defensive when others correct us. We think they are being critical of our character, so we react badly. However, all of us should be all ears when it comes to God correcting us.

The prophet Jeremiah gave us a great way to pray to the Lord for His correction. (Jeremiah 10:24) We should ask the Lord to correct us, but with justice, not with His anger, or He will bring us to nothing. I believe if we adopt this mindset, it will help us want God's correction, instead of avoiding it.

God knows us better than we know ourselves. Also, He knows the motives of our hearts and He sees and hears everything we do and say. Because of this and His great wisdom, He can correct us better than anyone else. Therefore, we should pray for His correction every day, so we can confess our sins and repent, so we are pleasing to Him.

We should realize that God can correct us with justice, not in His anger, too. That means that He can be very objective about our actions and words, without getting angry. If He were to correct in us anger, there would be nothing left of us. However, since God is love, it is very rare for Him to correct people in anger. He is just wanting to help us live in His will and enjoy the abundant life.
