Complimenting Others

These days life can be very hard and exhausting. We don't do as much physical labor as people did in the past, but we have so much going on around us all of the time with our technological advances. It seems those things would make life easier, but I think they only complicate things. As we get worn down, we need to be lifted back up. I believe what we say can help others in a powerful way.

The book of Song of Solomon is a love story. It is a little hard for us to understand completely, because we do not think about the things they used to describe their love for each other in the say way they thought of them back then. However, it is refreshing to hear how they complimented each other. (Song of Solomon 4:15) One compliment was, "You are a garden spring, a well of fresh water, and flowing streams of Lebanon." I hope we all get the gist of what was being conveyed.

I wonder how often we compliment the people we encounter every day? I know that I do not make that a practice as much as I should. It might be that we are too concerned about what we are doing to think about building up another person. That is a terrible way to live. We need to slow down and focus on every person we see every day.

Then, we should sincerely lift them up by saying something that is true about them, something that is worth recognizing. This lets them know that we care. It shows them that they are a person of worth. When we give out a compliment, it could be the one good thing that happens to that person during their day. It could lift them out of the stress for a moment and keep them from getting down. Let's try it and see what happens.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Song of Solomon 6-8 and Isaiah 1.
