Teach Me, Lord

Some of us are more teachable than others. It takes a humble heart to really be able to be taught by someone else. We have to realize that we do not know something and be willing to trust the other person to teach us well. Many people have a problem with this, especially when it comes to learning from God.

David was a great king, but he still knew that he needed to learn from God. (Psalm 86:11) He said to God, "Teach me Your way, Lord; I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear your name." I believe this verse gives us several principles we need for our daily lives to be growing and effective.

We all need to relate to Jesus as "Lord" of our lives. We need to realize that He is the "Boss" of the universe, and we need Him to be our Boss, too. That will inspire us to be humble and to mean it when we ask Him to teach us. Also, we need to live by what He teaches us. The word "walk" refers to how we live each day. We must desire to live by His truth in all things every day.

We will do this well when our heart is united, not divided. We need to have our heart set on only doing God's will in His way. Then, we will not have a battle gong on inside of us between what we want to do and what God wants us to do. We will do it even better when our heart is in reverence to the name of the Lord. That means that we know His character and greatness, and we only want to hear from Him and go His way.
