Our Wonderful Lord

All of God's attributes are perfect. That is why some theologians call them His "perfections." God does everything that He does perfectly well.  This should be especially comforting to us, since we are so dependent upon Him on a daily basis. However, I fear that many of us do not realize how wonderful He is.

David knew the Lord very well.  He depended on the Lord, and He was blessed by God many times. (Psalm 103:8) David was inspired to tell us that the Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. Those are the attributes of God that meet our basic needs and cause us to have an abundant life, if we depend on Him.

God "feels with" us. That is what compassion means. He doesn't just know what we are feeling, whether good or bad, but He feels it along with us. Therefore, He knows just what to do to help us experience what we need to experience. Then, He always gives us more than we deserve. Since we all fall short in so many ways, we need His grace for salvation and for living each day.

God is slow to anger, and we need that since we mess up and sin on a regular basis. He doesn't fly off the handle at us. He gets angry at our sins, but He is abounding in mercy. Therefore, He doesn't punish us as much as we deserve. When we put all of this together, we see the way that God knows and cares for us in every situation. We should be so thankful and praise Him for His perfections all the time.
