Keeping Our Eyes Toward the Lord

I drove Chris downtown for her sixth radiation treatment this afternoon. The traffic is always crazy, so we take time to pray for safety before we go. As we were returning home, suddenly I saw a small dark object flying straight toward my face. A good sized hunk of asphalt or something like it crashed into my windshield and bounced off. It startled both of us, but God protected us from harm.

King David had experienced this kind of thing many times, as people shot arrows at him and set traps for him. (Psalm 25:15) He had learned to keep his eyes continually toward the Lord, for he knew that God would be the One to rescue his feet from the net and protect him all the time. This is a great truth for all of us to apply to our lives.

So many of us worry about everything all of the time. We are so scared that someone or something will come against us and harm us. We mistakenly think that if we are very careful, we can protect ourselves from the things that will harm us. However, we are mistaken.

God is the Only One who can see what is ahead of us. He knows all of our enemies and what they are planning. He alone can protect us, so we need to keep our eyes toward Him and stop worrying. We need to pray and put our trust in Him every minute of every day, and He will rescue us from any trouble that might come to hurt us.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 26-28.
