Found to be Pure
The word pure means "unmixed." When something is pure, it is 100% what it is supposed to be, and nothing foreign is mixed in. This corresponds to the idea of being holy. Holy means always doing the right things and never doing the wrong things. Our goal should be to be holy every day in every area of life.
That is what God is looking for in us. David knew this. (Psalm 17:3) He knew that God had put his heart to the test. God had visited him in the night. God had even sifted him to see what David was made of, and He found nothing impure. It was even David's intent that he would not offend by saying anything God would not approve. I think this verse gives us a model for our life.
We should be aware that we are always being tested by God. He is watching us. He looks at the heart, not just the outward actions. He even comes to us in the night when we are alone and not expecting Him. God is not trying to catch us in something bad. He is trying to give us extra inspiration to be holy.
Also, God sifts us by giving us trials. He wants to see what we will do when we are shaken. He wants to see what will come out of us. When God does that, and He finds nothing, it means that we are really pure. In our desire to be holy and pure, we must be determined to allow God to control our mouths also. That way, we will not even sin by something we say.
