Covering the Ark of the Testimony
The Ark of the Testimony, the Ark of the Covenant, was very special. It was placed in the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle and then in the Temple. Only the High Priest could see it and only once a year to make atonement for Israel. The rest of the time it was unseen behind the veil.
When the sons of Israel set out from their camp, it had to be covered and carried correctly. (Numbers 4:5) Aaron, the High Priest and his sons, who were priests, would take down the veil and cover the Ark of the Testimony so the Levites could carry it by the poles without touching it or seeing it
However, when Jesus died on the cross for our sins, the Bible tells us that the veil hiding the Ark was split in two from the top to the bottom. That represented a drastic change. Now anyone can come to the Lord Jesus for atonement, not just the High priest.
Now, every believer is a Priest before God. We can pray to the Father through our relationship with Jesus. We can approach His throne to ask for grace and mercy any time. The presence of the Lord is not just in one place. The Holy Spirit lives in every Christian. What a blessing!
