A Holy Convocation

God knew from the beginning that He did not create people to live in isolation. He made us to be interdependent on each other. We need fellowship with other believers regularly. Also, we need to regularly come together for the purpose of worshiping Him. Many people neglect this command to their detriment.

The Lord's Word is very specific about this. (Leviticus 23:3) He told them they could work for six days, but on the seventh day there is a Sabbath of complete rest from work. That day is a holy convocation. They were not to do any work that day, but every family was to come together for the convocation on the Sabbath. This is still valid for us today.

Some people say they don't like "church" or "organized religion." They may have had a bad experience in a particular church, or they may just want to do what they want to do. However, God has decreed that there is to be a holy convocation once a week for all who believe in Him.

The word convocation means a special gathering of people for a purpose. The purpose of our assembling together today is to show our unity in the Lord to follow Jesus and to give Him all of the praise and glory He is due. It reminds us of what is really important each week, so we don't get away from His will. I pray that we will not go against God's design for us and neglect our coming together each week to worship Jesus.
