No More Stubborn Hearts

A lot of us are stubborn. At least, we have a stubborn streak about certain things. This trait keeps us from listening to others and even more importantly, from listening to God. We cease to be responsive to change. We call this being in a "rut." The problem is that a rut is a grave with both ends knocked out.

God told Ezekiel of a time when He would take away the stubborn hearts of His people. (Ezekiel 11:19) He said He would give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. He would take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart. I believe that is what He wants to do for us right now.

God does not want us to have a divided heart. He doesn't want us to be torn between the things of this world and Him. He wants our heart to be set singly on Him. Then, we can really have joy and peace of heart. He wants us to have a new spirit, a whole different attitude about us. We should be ready to do His will whatever He says and be happy about it.

For this to happen, we have to let the Lord take away our stony, stubborn heart. We have to repent of being stubborn and confess that sin to God. Then, He can cleanse us and give us a new tender, responsive heart. We will no longer be in a rut. We will be on an upward trajectory that will take us closer and closer to being like Jesus.
