Falling into Sin
Most of the time, we, as believers, do not make the decision to deliberately sin by doing something we know is wrong. No, we end up falling into sin. These sins could be prevented in many cases. We have to keep a constant watch on our hearts and our daily lives to make sure we are not allowing things that will make us fall into sin in the future.
God told Ezekiel about this situation with the leaders of His people. (Ezekiel 14:3) God said that the leaders had set up idols in their hearts. They had embraced things that would make them fall into sin eventually. Therefore, why should He listen to their requests. We need to watch out for the same things.
As I have said often, an idol is anything that takes our devotion from God. An idol causes us to use our time and money in the wrong way. We don't see it, at first, but then we fall into sin because we neglect the things of the Lord and our time with Him. Of course, we must do away with all idols of any kind.
Also, there are other things we can allow into our lives that lead us to fall into sin. If we have the wrong friends, often, their influence will make us fall into sin. If we have questionable habits of any kind, those things can lead us to sin. We need to ask the Spirit to search our hearts and lives, so He can show us anything that will lead us to fall into sin, and then get rid of those things by His power.
