How We Hurt God
We get hurt by other people all of the time. It is a part of life. Some words are very hurtful to us. At other times, it is the actions of people around us that hurt us, especially when they ignore us. It can even be an attitude from another person that hurts us. However, we do not think about God being a person who can be hurt like we are.
God told Ezekiel about His hurt. (Ezekiel 6:9) God said that when the people are exiled among the nations, they would remember Him. They would recognize how hurt He was by their unfaithful hearts and lustful eyes that long for their idols. Then, at last they would hate themselves for all their detestable sins. The same could be true for us today.
Sometimes it takes a lot to get us to wake up to the things we do that hurt God. This is true even for believers. We tend to think we are doing pretty well, but there could be some idols in our life that turn our hearts away from God. God sees us being unfaithful to Him and longing for the idols instead of longing for Him.
This is why we need to take an account of our life, and be sensitive to the Spirit, so He can show us anything that is taking our time and affections away from the Lord. Then, when we see how we have been looking to other things to meet our needs instead of God, we will hate ourselves for hurting God and practicing these detestable sins.
