Humbly Praying for Understanding
There are some things that happen to us that we will never understand. As I have said many times, we should ask God "what" He is wanting to teach us through the difficult things that happen, instead of asking "why." God doesn't ever have to tell us why He allowed something or did something to us. It is a matter of faith for us to trust that He loves us and is doing what is best for us.
Daniel showed us how to pray at these times. (Daniel 10:12) An angel came to Daniel and told him not be afraid. Then, he explained that since the first day Daniel began to pray for understanding and to humble himself before his God, his request had been heard in heaven. He told Daniel that he had been sent to answer his prayer. We can learn a lot from this account from Daniel.
We must not charge into God's presence and demand for our prayers to be answered. We must not only pray for what we want, since that would be selfish. God is in charge, He is not our servant. We must humble ourselves before the Lord as we come into His presence. We must make it clear that we do not deserve His mercy and grace, but we need to appeal to Him for His wisdom.
Then, we pray for understanding. We ask God to show us how He is planning to meet our need for assistance or information. If He wants to tell us "why" that would be nice, but if not, we understand. We do need to know "what" we need to learn, though, so we can become more like Jesus and help others do the same. When we pray like that God is very inclined to answer our request, as He did for Daniel.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Daniel 11-12 and Hosea 1.
