God Tends His Sheep
It is amazing how Ezekiel 34 sounds so much like Jesus in John 10. When we read these passages, we are struck by how seriously God takes His responsibility to care for us, as His sheep. He is truly the Good Shepherd. He knows just what we need, and He provides it well.
God made this very plain to Ezekiel (Ezekiel 34:15) God said, "I, Myself, tend My sheep and give them a place to lie down in peace." This is what the Sovereign Lord has said, and He means every word of it. We need to rest in this truth.
First of all, when we come to Christ, we need to remember that we do not belong to ourselves, we belong to God. We are "His sheep." He has bought us, and adopted us into His flock. This should give us great security in our salvation and eternal destiny. It should give us joy, as well.
Also, the Good Shepherd knows that we need a place to lie down in peace. Sounds like Psalm 23, too, doesn't it? God knows we need rest and peace. This world is a rough place. It is stressful in many ways. We need to listen to the Lord and allow Him to lead us to rest in Him and have peace. That is the abundant life we all desire.
