Why we don't Ask God for Help?

Most of us are very independent. When we encounter a problem, the first thing that comes to our mind is how we can solve the problem. Then, we try our solution, but often it doesn't work. If we are believers, we are really messing up when we do things that way. We ought to ask God for help first thing.

This was true of the people of Jerusalem during the siege. (Isaiah 22:11) They built a reservoir between the city walls and filled it with water from the old pool. However, they never asked for help from the One who brought the calamity upon them. They never considered the One who planned it long before it happened. That was their fatal flaw, and it might be ours, too.

Our problems are caused by our sins or by the Lord. Sometimes, He allows problems as trials to strengthen our faith, as we trust Him more. Other times, He sends us problems as He disciplines us for our sins. If we try to solve the problems ourselves, they will never be solved.

We can't forgive our sins, and we can't know God's will unless we ask Him. If He is sending a trial, we need to ask for His Strength. If it is His discipline, we need for Him to show us our sin, so we can confess it and repent. Therefore, let's decide to make asking God the first thing we do, instead of the last thing. Things will go much better that way.
