Turning to the Lord

A long time ago I was teaching a Bible study at our apartment in Waco, and a new Christian named Chuck said something I will never forget. He said, "Most people do pretty much whatever they really want to do." Truer words have never been spoken. That is what is wrong with our culture and our world today.

Isaiah showed us the solution to this problem as he shared God's plans for Egypt. (Isaiah 19:22) He told us that the Lord will strike Egypt, and then He will bring healing. For the Egyptians will turn to the Lord, and He will listen to their pleas and heal them. This will happen in the future, but anyone who turns to the Lord today, will receive His healing spiritually.

We can't do God's will and our own will at the same time. That is what many people are trying to do. This is true even for believers. We have to say no to what we want to do, and we have to turn to the Lord and do what He has for us to do. His way is far better than our way, and we will be much happier if we will turn to the Lord.

God has to strike people in various ways to get their attention. Some will turn to Him and some won't. For those who do, God will hear their pleas, and heal them from their sins and other problems if they will truly turn to Him and stop doing what they want to do. Believe me, if God will do that for the Egyptians one day, He will do it for you today. Please, turn to Jesus now.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 20-22.
