Giving Only Lip-Service to God

Words are important. God hears all of our words, and He will judge us for them one day. Words can be very cheap and meaningless. If our words are not backed up by our actions, they mean very little or nothing at all. It is up to us to speak the right words and to live out what we say we believe. This is very important to God.

God saw through the words of His people in Isaiah's time. (Isaiah 29:13) He said, "These people say they are Mine. They honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And their worship of Me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote." God looks at the heart behind our words, and He bases His actions on the condition of our heart.

God is worthy of all honor. Yes, we should honor Him in all we say. We must also honor Him from our hearts. The way we do that is to fully trust Him with our life and to follow everything He says for us to do. It is very dishonoring to God, when we say things to honor Him, but we do things that dishonor Him.

It is terrible for our worship of God to be a ritual we perform, instead of a relationship we express. If our worship doesn't proceed from our heart based on the way we love the Lord and desire to honor Him, it is worthless to God. In fact, it is any insult, because we think He doesn't see through to our hearts.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 30-33.
