Getting Out of the Pit of Despair
Life is hard. It can be very discouraging. We even get to the point of being depressed about our circumstances and relationships. When we get to that point, we can even despair over things ever getting better ever. We lose hope, and apart from God we can simply give up on life. That is never God's will for us.
David had so many problems that he came to the point of despair at times. (Psalm 40:2) However, David's testimony was that God lifted him out of the pit of despair. He picked him up out of the mud and mire of life's situations. God set his feet on solid ground and steadied him as he began to move forward in life again. God will do that for any of us, if we trust Him.
We must never try to face life on our own. We are not wise enough or strong enough. Satan will defeat us. Other people will be cruel to us. Our flesh will lead us into habits and addictions that harm us badly and discourage us to despair. We must admit out weakness and cast ourselves upon the Lord.
Then, God will lift us up by His Holy Spirit, by His mighty right hand. As we confess our sins, He will cleanse us from the mud and mire. He will set us on the solid ground of His Word, and He will steady us, as we walk with Him. However, it is up to us to depend fully on the Lord and determine to trust Him with everything all the time.
