Feared God More Than Most

The Bible tells us that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. I would say that it is very important for us to fear God then, wouldn't you? So we all need to take stock of our lives and try to get a good measure of how much we fear God. I pray that we fear God more than most, and that our fear of the Lord is what it should be, so we are pleasing to the Lord.

Nehemiah mentions this. (Nehemiah 7:2) When the wall of Jerusalem was completely finished, Nehemiah gave the responsibility of governing Jerusalem to his brother Hanani, along with Hananiah, the commander of the Fortress, because he was a faithful man, who feared God more than most. I believe those are good qualifications for a leader, and it is a great compliment for any believer.

Are we faithful?  Do we consistently follow the Lord each day? Do we practice what we preach? If we fear the Lord, we will have a strong motivation to be faithful. We will respect the Lord well, and we will always be mindful of what He could do to us, if we are unfaithful to Him and His Word. A lack of faithfulness could very well be a lack of the fear of God.

We are not to measure our righteousness by comparing ourselves to others. Jesus is our standard that we are to strive for in every area of our lives. If we strive to fear the Lord well, we will be more and more like Jesus, and we will end up fearing God more than most. We shouldn't want this to be said of us so we can boast, but we should want it, so our life can be filled with wisdom and the good blessings of God.
