Coming Back to God
Sometimes it takes drastic circumstances to bring us back to God. We say a person has to get to the end of his or her rope before he or she looks up to God and cries out in faith. I wish it didn't take that, but it seems to come from the pride in our human nature. I pray we will take stock of our lives now, and if we are away from God that we would go ahead and return without this happening.
King Manasseh had to hit rock bottom before he did the right things. (II Chronicles 33:12-13) While in deep distress, Manasseh sought the Lord his God and sincerely humbled himself before the God of his ancestors. When he prayed, the Lord listened to him and was moved by his request. So the Lord brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then, Manasseh finally realized that the Lord alone is God.
When we become deeply distressed, it can lead us to depression and all that brings, or we can decide to be real with God and humble ourselves before Him. We can admit our sins that brought us into despair and ask God to forgive us. Of course, that is the right thing for anyone to do, but few really get to that point.
If we will be sincerely humble and turn to God, He will listen to us and be moved by our prayer. He will bring us out of the deep distress, and He will set our feet on solid ground. It could be that for the first time this will lead us to see that the Lord alone is God. There are no other gods, but the one True God, and then, we will trust Christ once and for all. I pray that will happen to you if you are away from God now.
