What are You Doing Here?

God's wants us to know what we are doing here? What I mean is that God wants each of us to know specifically what He is doing in our life and why we find ourselves where we are today? So, Let me ask us that question," What are you doing here?" If we don't know, we need to find out.

Elijah heard this question when he had run to the cave in the wilderness, because he was afraid of Jezebel. (I Kings 19:12-13) There was a great wind that tore the rocks. Then, there was an earthquake followed by a fire, but the Lord was not speaking to him in any of those ways. After the fire, Elijah heard the sound of a gentle whisper. When he heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak, and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Then, a voice said, "What are you doing here.?"

Many of us are waiting for God to speak to us in a dramatic way. We want His voice to be so loud that we can't possible miss what He is saying. God doesn't often speak like that. Also, He doesn't do earthquakes of fires very often to get our attention. He expects us to be listening to Him because we love Him, and we are hanging on every word He might speak to us.

Therefore, we need to be still and quiet before the Lord on a regular basis. We need to tune in our hearts to that gentle whisper. We need to be in awe every time we hear it, like Elijah was, and we need to show God that we are ready to do whatever He says. That is how we know what we are doing here. It is by hearing from Him and doing His will only.
