Grace Upon Grace
We sing the song "Amazing Grace." but I wonder how many of us realize just how much we have benefited from the grace of God. Yes, it is by grace that we are saved through faith, because we could never do enough to save ourselves from our sins. God knew salvation would have to be a gift. That is what grace means. It is something we don't deserve and that we could never earn. God is so good to give us forgiveness when we repent of our sins and put our trust in Jesus. However, that is just the beginning of grace. God continues to give us grace upon grace through the fullness of Jesus. (John 1:16-17) We are not under the law which God gave through Moses, but now, we are living in the grace and truth which came through Jesus. The more we draw near to Jesus, the more grace and truth we can receive.
We can't save ourselves from sin, so we need grace, but we can't live every day in our own power either. We need to trust the Lord and receive His grace every day to really live the Christian life. Jesus came to earth, the God/Man, and He showed us the fullness of the grace and truth of God. God died for us. He loves us so much, He wants us to have everything we need for life. It is not that we do not have to do anything; we do have to apply ourselves to seek the Lord and walk with Jesus daily by faith. Then, when we do that faithfully, God gives us grace upon grace. He loads us up with so much more than we deserve. I pray we will all step back today and think of all of the fantastic blessings God has poured out on us and our family over the years. Let's realize we did not deserve any of those blessings. They were God's gifts to us, because He loves us. That is what we learn from Jesus and from the Word of God when we see Truth, and we live by the truth.
